If you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing the song “Blackbird” by Alterbridge, please allow me to share a part of it that speaks to my soul:
Let the wind carry you home
Blackbird, fly away
May you never be broken again
Beyond the suffering you’ve known
I hope you find your way
May you never be broken again
We’ve all felt broken inside. Personally, I’ve been in places where I felt so broken that I wasn’t sure the pieces would ever find their way back together again.
They did, (and in many cases, they still are a work in progress) – though maybe not in the original configuration. And maybe the pain of being broken is realizing that the configuration cannot ever be the same because that configuration is what led to you being broken, to begin with.
But we hold onto what we’re used to, we long for that same-ness and we despise being broken.
I made this image for a dear friend who introduced me to this song and loved it deeply. Sharing it now represents my knowing that the configuration myself and that friend had is gone, and that we’ve been broken by this shift. Sharing it is the surrender that I still love him and am grateful for even the breaking that I’ve endured and inflicted.
If you’ve been broken, I pray for you to find peace in the opportunity it gives you to re-configure. I hope you find your way, I hope I find my way, and I hope we may never be broken again.
When have you been broken and how did the pieces work themselves together again after it? What came from that break that you are now, in hindsight, grateful for?
