Why do we love butterflies more than moths?

How often have you seen the butterfly be the graphical representation of change? Personally, about 100 times too many.

Yes, it’s magical.. they’re a worm, then they cocoon up, liquefy and BAM a whole new being.

There are literally millions of other types of insects that do the exact same thing, yet most of them don’t get their own tattoo.

Yet the butterfly stands as the beacon and symbol of beautiful change, and its night-time counterpart the moth is left to the bug zappers.

Why?

Do a Google search, moths are some of the largest, most beautiful incests in the world. They’re even nice enough to usually rest with their wings open so we can admire their beauty.

I think it may be that they’re nocturnal, and we by nature fear the dark. We don’t want to go through a personal transformation and think that we’re coming out of it at night.

Not me, not this round. This transformation, I’m a moth.

I’m staring right into that dark place that’s been choking my heart and I’m telling it that I’m here and ready to love and accept it. I’m not hiding away under the safety of the sun anymore, I’m ready to do the hard work.

And it’s beautiful and it’s out there for all to see.

That’s what I think of when I see a moth these days. What do you think about when you see one?
